刈米義雄 -My Story-

東京生まれ。母は「万葉古流」家元、父は呉服商。9歳から裏千家茶道を学ぶ。
上智大学在学中に 「古流」古典生花に出会い、本格的に花を学ぶ。
卒業後は古流家元・熊井理総氏に内弟子入門。
その後、独立、みずからがこだわる自由な様式の花を教える『花塾』を主宰、今日に至る。

デヴューした年に「MARIE CLAIR マリー・クレール」にて8p.の自由な花あしらいを1年間連載、評判を得る。その後「ミセス」「BRUTUS」「アサヒグラフ」「流行通信」「non-no」「MORE」「セゾン・ド・ノンノ」「家庭画報」「花時間」「フローリスト」などに連載や作品群を発表。「花時間」「DREAM」「フローリスト」などで10数ページの作家特集もあり。現在は「pumpkin」の扉ページを1年半担当の後、現在に至るまで、同誌に2ページの見開きページを10年間に渡り長期連載中。

映画好きでもあり、「フローリスト」で20年以上の映画欄担当を経た後「DAZZLE」(日経B P社)にて8年間映画欄を担当した。

雑誌連載と『花塾』以外の活動は、新国立劇場、オーチャードホール、サントリーホール、紀尾井ホール、国際フォーラムなどの舞台や、パークハイアット東京ホテル(新宿)のボール・ルーム、ヴェネシアン・ルームなどで開催されるオペラ・コンサートの会場・舞台に花を飾る。
レナート・ブルゾン、林康子、ヴィクトリア・ルキアネッツ、ジョゼッペ・サバティーニ、マリエッラ・デヴィーア（各氏敬称略）などの世界的オペラ歌手の舞台の花演出を手がける。
その他イヴェントなどで花を飾ったホテル、スペースも多い。

多摩美術大学講師、創形美術大学講師などで特別講師もつとめる。

都市の高層建築空間での植栽などのデザインでも受賞経験有り。

Born in Tokyo to a mother who was a master of “Manyo Koryu” style ikebana and a kimono merchant father. 
Yoshio started studying the Urasenke Japanese Tea Ceremony at the age of 9. 
As an undergraduate at Sophia University, he discovers the “Koryu” style classic ikebana and officially starts his training. After graduating college, he becomes a disciple at the head of the school for “Koryu” under Master Risou Kumai. Eventually, he broke away from the school to start his free-spirited style of ikebana called “Hanajuku” which he continues to preside over to this day.

The year he debuted, he earned himself a reputation through a 12-month 8-page spread series called“Seikatsuno Hana” in the magazine “MARIE CLAIRE” (Japan) where he talked about freestyling flower arrangements. 

More published works and series followed in “MRS.”, “BRUTUS”, “ASAHI GRAPH”, “RYUKOU TSUUSHIN”, “non・no”, “MORE”, “SAISON DE non・no”, “KATEI GAHOU”, “HANAJIKAN”, and “FLORIST” magazines. 
He also appeared as a 10+ page special feature in the magazines ”HANAJIKAN”, “DREAM”, and “FLORIST”. 
He currently holds a 2-page spread series in the magazine “pumpkin” for the past 12 years. 

An avid movie lover, he wrote movie review columns in the magazine “FLORIST” for 20 years, and in the magazine “DAZZLE” (NIKKEI Business Publications) for 8 years.

Besides writing magazine columns and teaching “Hanajuku”, Yoshio also creates floral stage designs at the New National Theatre Tokyo, Orchard Hall, Suntory Hall, Kioi Hall, and Tokyo International Forum, as well as stage and venue decorations for opera concerts held in the Ball Room and Venetian Room at the Park Hyatt Tokyo Hotel (Shinjuku). 
Yoshio has created floral stage productions for world-renowned opera singers such as Renato Bruson, Yasuko Hayashi, Victoria Loukianetz, Giuseppe Sabbatini, and Mariella Devia.

Yoshio showcased several flower art pieces at multiple events and hotels.

Lecturer at Tama Art University and Sokei Academy of Fine Art & Design.

Won awards for urban high-rise building space landscaping design.
